I call my use of collage "Watermedia Collage," since collage can be utilized in many ways. In my workshops I demonstrate two (or more) approaches to creating collage paintings. The focus is on Color and Design, with little or no brushwork required. Artists of all levels enjoy the creative freedom of the process, whether abstract or representational.
In the first approach, we focus on creating one-of-a-kind colored papers by staining and painting art tissue and rice papers with acrylic inks and paints. We then cut, tear, and assemble a composition, mounting the papers on a panel or canvas. The composition may be enhanced by painting if desired.

Finished Pieces: Some works have little or no painting on them. Some use many collage pieces, plus paint.
In the second approach, uncolored art tissue and/or rice papers are mounted to a panel or canvas to create unique textural effects. Paint is then applied, which develops the composition. The underlying papers add the textures.
Other papers or "found" objects can be added in either approach. The colored papers can also be collag-ed onto to 3-dimensional objects.
The possibilities are endless!
