WORKSHOPS

I enjoy teaching workshops on a variety of watermedia topics and techniques. I teach frequently at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts in Greenville, SC, and as an invited instructor at other regional facilities in the Southeast.

Most workshops are two or three-day intensive sessions, and are geared for adults, though I also enjoy working with middle and high school age students. Workshops are customized for the individual artists, and I encourage students to find their own approach, using my techniques to express their individual style.

Some of my most popular workshop topics:

  • Exploring Acrylics: Artists learn to utilize acrylics, the most versatile painting medium. Use them thin to look like watercolor, or opaquely like oil paints, while building on a foundation of composition and color.

  • Get More from Your Acrylics: Artists go deeper into composition and learn how to achieve a full range of colors from only 3 colors, plus white. Traditional and contemporary techniques are explored.

  • Stained paper Watermedia Collage: Participants dye and stain art tissue or rice papers, creating color papers that they learn to incorporate into paintings or mixed media.

  • Painting With Acrylic & MIxed Media: Artists learn to stretch their creativity by combining painting with collage and other mixed materials, while emphasizing design, composition and color.

  • New Approaches to Landscape Painting: Artists will explore new approaches to a traditional subject. They learn to use color and design to create “atmosphere” and to go beyond what we see in photos!

I also offer other topics and can put together a workshop that is requested by a group.
